Looking for a corvair engine to rebuild for my zodiac 650. Would prefer a 65-69 model code RD, RF, RH,RX,RK,RA,RE, RG OR RJ. Complete engine would be good as parts are non existant in Australia for these engines.

Tim,

There was one on Ebay last week that didn't sell. BIN $4700  That way you don't have to hunt for nonexistant parts. PM/friend me for the link.

Hey Bob,

Thanks for that, I think that may be the green one that is listed again this week for $4650...  Reason I was looking for a good core, was I am more partial to Roy Szarafinski's method of 5th bearing which requires a lot more case work than the Wesemans fifth bearing solution.  So was looking more for a ground up rebuild, cheers.

Hi Tim - I'm in Sydney and interested in the corvair engine too. I've spent plenty of time on WW's site! Let me know ifyouwant to exolore the option of bringing out a number of cores / engines and sharing the shipping cost. It might be worth pricing it up.

I would be willing to bet that Roy could find you a core and do his magic on it before shipping you the whole thing for you to finish. That way, you would know for sure you have a good core (Roy inspects them before working on them) and not be buying a sight unseen "shot in the dark" to send to Roy. Check with Roy, is my suggestion.

Yes that's a really good idea. Presumably also the machining for the 5th bearing could be completed by Roy prior to it being shipped, as well as nitriding, magnafluxing etc. Tim - let me know if you're keen to explore whether consolidated shipping on 2 or more cores to Oz would save much money? I imagine it might.

I was thinking that Roy may be the best option to do it all, but I may have to call him as I have emailed and asked him a few questions but had no response.  David I do think it is worth asking the question to see if the freight is cheaper.  Although I have been thinking of chasing up a freight company like C & H Freight(they advertise in Sport Pilot) and getting a rough quote from those guys too...

I just sent C & H an email requesting a quote, will let you know what they reckon David, cheers.

Thanks Tim - lets find out if two cores crated together from Roy's would be cheaper. I suspect it might be.

WW just posted an ad on his site for short blocks - plus he has cores also, and he works with Roy a lot, so you might inquire with him... not sure if Roy sells cores... he's got mine right now, and I think he mostly works on what gets shipped to him.  Of course, I could be totally wrong about that, but that's the impression I got.
