For those of you that have the heater from Viking - did you install or are you planning on installing a control valve?
I don't really like the idea of the hot radiator in the cabin all the time so I was thinking of just splicing in a manual control valve - push pull knob like most planes - as well as using the heater fans.
If you've researched it what did you buy and did then Viking supplied hoses fit the stock control valve.
I'm thinking of something like this
This particular one would need hose adapters.

I have not, but l like your idea, and am interested to see where you go with this.
One of the things that I am watching for is extra heat in the cabin during the summer. I'm new to the area I live in now, and the climate here (TX) is considerably warmer than where I have had most of my flying experience (MN).
For right now, during the cooler time of the year, the Viking heater is really nice.
I'll let you know what I figure out. I can't imagine it won't be a problem in the Summer.
We didn't install a valve because we didn't feel it was necessary. Instead, we decided to enclose our Viking heater to keep most heat off our feet and direct it through ducts to the windshield/cabin. If I was to install a valve, that looks like a good one.
That is the exact valve that I have in both, the 701 and 750. works great
Vikings take on this is to leave it out. No Valve. None of these airplanes are sealed to the point where the heater make any difference without a fan blowing through the core. Also, the heater passage does aid the system purging air, etc.

I went with a shut off valve because I didn't want the extra heat under the panel. It may not be a lot but why take the chance for the cost of the valve . I vented the heat through ducts on the panel face. the valve was found in a J C Whitney catalog. It works great.
Isn't the heater part of the engine cooling system loop? Shutting the valve would stop the flow of coolant, no? Or is it on a separate branch?
It is a loop off the coolant. It can help cool the engine when open. If not installed it would be plugged . It doesn't hurt the engine flow either way. It is the same way a car heater works.
Please do not buy the plastic one. I did and within a year it broke so I got another and it did the same. I found a brass one on eBay at www.obsoleteair. 5/8 car heater valve tap universal type hot rod cable type inline Type this in and it should come up with a variety of them. Look for a brass one on the internet. Please.
