I asked about training in a 701 but am told that only a 750 can be rented for training.  Does anyone know of a flight school that has a 750 available for transition training.

They have a 750 at the Carson City location.

Buzz is a builder as well as an instructor.  He probably knows more about Zeniths than anyone not associated with the company, so he's good to talk to in any case.

Carson City is quite a ways from me. (Louisiana)  Their Tennessee location is closer but I don't know if they have a 750 there.

I'm just up the road from you in DeRidder,LA. I wish I had a 701 to take you up in.

THANKS

I found at least four here in LA but haven't been in contact yet.

None are members of this forum.  I found them thru an FAA search.

Will keep you posted.

BTW want to buy mine? LOL

Randall, the FAA doesn't restrict anyone from receiving or giving training in a 701, or any experimental amateur build aircraft.  What they can't do is receive compensation for the aircraft unless they have a LODA (Letter of Deviation Authority).  So, if you can find a 701 owner who is nice enough to take you up out of the goodness of his/her heart, then you could theoretically receive training.

Thanks James.

I think that will be easier to accomplish.  I suppose buying them lunch is out of the question (LOL)

There can be big insurance issues doing this.  I'm not saying don't do it, just that from a paperwork and cost standpoint, it may be more than you would think at first glance.  If I understand how this works, and I'm not sure I do, you probably have to receive your training from a CFI in order to meet your insurance requirements. So either the owner of the 701 must be a CFI, or the owner must allow someone else to fly his plane for instruction purposes which is unlikely to be covered by a typical owner policy.  Of course if everyone is "self insuring" it's a lot easier, you just need the LODA and a CFI willing to train in an experimental.  That's a problem in some places, and not an issue in others.

This is the sort of mess that the NTSB thinks the FAA should sort out so that more builders get proper training.

I think we see what we all are facing.  I will be happy to let any of you builders use my plane for training once I get it done.  That seems to be taking so long I probably won't have to worry about that though.

Self insured for hull value but not for liability?  Another issue though
