Curious if anyone can provide a brief explanation on this. The center hinge bracket attaches to the spar of the horizontal stabilizer with 3 A5 rivets and 2 AN3-5A bolts, one on the top and one on the bottom.
Are these bolts simply for safety, to provide and additional and different type of connection in case of catastrophic failure? Or will I be attaching something later and I simply haven't yet identified it in the drawings
Can anyone shed some light on this design choice?
Hi Mark, I believe the bolts are there to prevent any tension load from reaching the rivets. Riveted joints tend to be very strong in shear but may loosen under tension, bolts do very well with both loads but weigh more. Hope this helps. Good luck with your project!
Ahhh, Of course! That makes a lot of sense and explains their positioning too. Thanks a lot Clint!
