I'm preparing to paint my airplane and I have a few questions.

I'm following a process where you clean the metal, the prep with alodine then epoxy primer and then uerathane paint.

One question I have is what do you use to clean your paint equipment after spraying epoxy?

I have the same question about the uerathane.

Another related question.

I've heard that the epoxy likes to be fresh when the paint is applied.  Those of you who have done 2 tone paint jobs.  Do  you tape off and prime an area and leave the metal bare where  you aren't ready for the second color, or do you prime the hole thing and not worry about it?

Does anyone have any tips concerning the taping off for a 2 tone paint job?

I'm looking for bright red paint.  Anyone know what color available through aircraft spruce is the brightest red?

My CH750 is painted with automotive uerathane... floats too ! Interlux yacht paint on the bottoms.

Dan... All...  Here is my 2 cents.  DO NOT.  DO NOT!!! Paint your plane without using  a "bag" system.  Devilbiss Dekups or 3M PPS (Paint Prep System) sprayers.    You ask about clean up?  What to use?  The amount of money yous pend on either of these systems (about 125 bucks) you will spend in frustration and cost of nasty solvents cleaning your guns.  I used less than a cup of solvent to clean my guns using the PPS.  However, here is the most important part. VERY IMPORTANT.  In addition to reducing the clean up, either of these systems allow you to spray at any angle, even upside down.  That's somethign your ordinary gravity fed gun won't let you do and is extremely important.  GOOD LUCK.  Oh one other thing.  Never let anything touch your paint that you didn't buy at a paint store.  I tried mixing some small batches and used a giant horse syringe to acurately mix quantites.  I later found I was getting fish eyes all over the place.  Syringes are lubricated using silicone!  DOH!!!!

One more thing.  Red.  Red gets everywhere, all I can say is that if you don't tape it off, it will be where you don't want it.  You'll be amazed at where paint can find it's way into, behind your masking etc.  Talk to your paint shop about your plans, your time to mask, how long to cure before you can tape etc.  Don't cheap out on your supplies, although I found that you can do  pretty good job with a relatively inexpensive gun.  I don't think you need a 600 dollar Sata, though I'm sure it would do a great job it too can become crap by just forgetting to clean it up once.

BTW... You said Urethane.  That means forced air.  Borrow one if you don't have a forced air system.  Some will always argue that a good cartridge will work, but it isn't worth the risk.  Urethanes=nasty stuff.  Dont push your luck with the nasty urethanes.
