Watching the fuselage DVDs last night, Jon makes the off-hand remark that before installing the control rod they've been primed and painted because they are steel. I get to exercise my virgin knowledge again and ask if someone can explain ?

Is there some special technique or paint that needs to be used on the steel parts ? Could I leave them in black if I wanted (I probably don't) ?

I suppose as my fuse is coming together I better start thinking about the interior.... I presume most people paint, rather than leave it bare (much harder to polish inside than the outside) ?

Thanks

Paul

Good to know - I am just ready to prime my steel parts before riveting the front part of the fuselage.  I'll check for the 2 part epoxy primer.

I don't recommend the "rattle can" idea. Get yourself a good expoy primer and paint. You probably already know; take note of temp and humidity at the time of application.

What are people doing for inside the steel parts? On the factory Cruzer you could see some rust inside the top tube over windshield.

SEM makes a Rust Preventer Cavity Wax  that you can use with a flexible plastic wand that has a 360 degree spray tip.  You thread the wand deep inside hollow areas, such as the spar carry-through tube, etc, and fog the interior with the spray.  It'll last indefinitely when used in unexposed cavities.
