My complete 701 kit will be ready for pickup Jan 19th.  I've been researching how to get it from Zenith to North Texas (Wylie).  I now have access to a covered, 7x14 trailer.  I know the crate ($490) will fit, but I was wondering if any of the builders out there have any experience with moving an uncrated kit?  I have 30+ furniture blankets/pads and a couple of rolls of corrugated cardboard.  I'll be alone for the pickup, but I'm told the staff will be able to lend some assistance with the load.  any thoughts/comments would be appreciated.

When I went to the rudder school and picked up my kit (601XL) I borrowed my brother's 15 passenger Ford van. I left all the rear area seats home and drove out for the school and kit pickup. The Zenith folks loaded it all up and it fit the van just fine. They said they preferred to load the kit rather than have the customer do it, they have it down to a science.

If you are renting a 15 passenger Chevy that should work just fine (as long as there are no seats installed other than the front two). Have fun!

For skin storage I built a loft kind of thing in my hangar, basically a four by twelve foot suspended shelf. I used the layers of cardboard and brown paper that the Zenith folks packed them into the van with as storage spacers/protectors. I had not considered the rolled skins in big boxes idea, but storing them flat (in a space not used for other purposes) has worked well for me.

All good Bob.  I like the flat storage loft idea.  I'll probably do that while waiting for the kit.  I've about completed a 13' worktable ... heavy as the dickens but I put it on casters.
