So for school I’m working on an RV-12 (don’t worry, my 601HDS wings and tail still get worked on in my garage). We are getting close to engine start, and we installed the engine controls last night. However, I noticed no mixture control! I did some looking around and this does seem to be the case. I should point out that this is NOT the 912iS, but the dual carb version.
I have ave always planned to put this engine on my bird, so I’m curious what everyones experience with this is. Do you like it? Do you wish you had more control? How’s the fuel burn and temperatures?
My HDS has a 912ULS installed. So far (500hrs running mogas) I've been pleased. Nice and simple no mixture control. At 5K rpm 4.3 gph, 5.3K rpm 5.0 fph, 5.5K rpm 5.4 gph. This at about 2500 MSL.
Scott, I have flown many hours on LSA with Rotax 912ULS installed and landed on airfields elevated higher than 7000 ft AMSL. The automatic mixture control, that controls the two carburettors, works great. The only important thing is to really setup the engine correctly (mainly the balancing of the two carbs); you will find instructions on flyrotax-website (or on different good other internet websites). The 912ULS burns something like 4-5 USG/h and is very efficient. Have fun with the engine!
