Just received a MGL V6 transceiver for my 750. When the box arrived, it was so light I thought it might be empty! This radio weighs 250 gms ... that's not a typo! Well, that's a $1000+ way to increase useful load! LOL! This thing's got more functions than a Japanese watch! It has a built-in true stereo intercom with digital automatic squelch ... they call it VOGAD or something?

Wow John, That's incredable. My Icom A210 weighs 1kg. 750 gms here, 100gms there. It all adds up in the end.

Well done

Phill

Hi John

I have also gone with the MGL V6.  I haven't been where I can test it yet.  Here are a couple pictures mounted.

Looks great! Did you get the harness from MGL? If so, did it include the headset jacks?

Where did you find the M3-0.5 x 12mm mounting screws?

Thanks,

John

Yes I did get the wire harness and it came with the hedset jacks as well as the music input jack.  You can see in the previous picture I submitted of the pannel that I mounted the headphone jacks plus the music jack below the fuel selector valve. Attached is a picture of the harnes as it came.  The mounting screws for the radio came with the radio.

Bill,

Thanks for the additional info! I'm supposed to be getting the harness soon. I also have a couple of Bose ANR headsets and have a couple of extra Bose harnesses. I'm wondering if I can just wire the Bose harness in series with the conventional jacks so I could use either one? Of course, the Bose jacks will have to have +12VDC for the headset power, too.

My radio didn't have the mounting screws - I've emailed Matt to send me some.

Thanks,

John

I really don't know the answer to your question.  I believe you are right that they can be wired in series.  I remember the manual talks about how to wire four sets of jacks to the radio but I didn't read it too closely. MGL has a users forum on their web site where someone may be better able to answer that question,  The link is below.

Thanks, Bill, the MGL forum came through for me! They said that what I want to do will work (actually the headsets are parallel, not series as I said) OR I could just wire the Bose "LEMO" harnesses in and not use the conventional GA jacks at all ... would save 4 more holes in the panel! Spruce sells a "Pilot USA PA-93" adapter for about $53 that lets you plug conventional headsets into the Bose jacks. I'd rather buy and keep one of those in the plane than have a bunch of extra jacks I never use.

Rainer also mentioned that with ANR headsets, the V6 will need rather low VOX settings or perhaps just turned off.

Regards,

John

John I'm glad they came through for you.  They responded very quickly also.  I hope the radio works as well as they claim.

Bill,

Matt is sending the mounting screws ... good customer service!

Another question (I've posted it on the MGL forum - no response yet) that perhaps you (or someone!) can answer - The MGL harness has separate "PTT HI" and "PTT LO" leads (two sets- one set for pilot and one for passenger). Do you know what the difference in "HI" and "LO" is?

I prewired the panel with a PTT lead that goes through the stick PTT switch and then to ground. I "assume" at least one of those leads connects to this? I'll also report the MGL forum's answer if I get one.

John

Here's the info from the MGL forum and from Matt:

The "PTT Hi" is the lead that goes to the PTT switch. The "PTT Lo" is a convenience lead that provides a ground. So, you can simply run the "Hi" to the PTT switch, connect the "Lo" and you're done!

In my case, however, I already prewired the PTT switch to ground. So, all I have to do is connect the PTT switch to "Hi" and I'm done!

John

Im also in the process of wiring my radio. The PTT HI and PTT LO also confused me. I called them and the PTT Lo is grounded back to radio. Also I saw in the manual sometimes the word "PAX", it means passenger.
