Any folks out there using, purchased or plan on using any of the MGL EFIS products?

I'm installing an MGL Voyager in my 701. I moderate the user-to-user MGL forum on Yahoo. We have about 733 members. The head of MGL, his assistant engineer and most of the world-wide dealers are also on the list.

Here is a link to the forum:

Craig, as you know, I installed an MGL Enigma in my CH601 HDS. Have been enjoying flying with it (when the temperatures here have been warm enough).

My only complaint so far is that the documentation does not keep up with software. I realize that the software has been changing rapidly and it is no easy task to keep the documents current but it is a bit frustrating at times.

Maybe a WIKI could be setup that has the current manual and then anyone can add to and update the manual as they figure out how the various software changes have changed the functions of the unit?

Bill
Bill,

Did you use the sp2 and the sp4? SP5? Auto pilot? What Nav did you use with your insstallation?

Thanks, rich
Rich,

I am using the SP2 and SP4. I will be ordering the Comm extender soon that is needed to interface between the Enigma snd the Trio servos. I am also getting ready to build the mounts for the servos. I built a scale mockup of a Trio servo so I can do all of the fitting before I actually order the servos.

The Enigma is the best thing I have purchased in a long time. The ability to customize screens is second to none.

This past weekend I flew a GLS approach to my home airport from about 10 miles out. The Enigma guided me right to the runway threshold. This is all with GPS derived data. Amazing!!

Bill
Bill,

thanks for the update. I really like what I read about the MGL products. If I can ever get to that point MGL is what I will use.

So you like the GLS aproach? This was in VFR conditions I asume? How does it get you to the begining of the glide slope entry. Most ILS entrie have some sort of intersect of teh apporpriate radial to the runway.

Thanks,
Rich
Rich,

Yes this was in VFR conditions. There are two ways you can do the GLS approach. Direct and Via Intercept. By pressing the "o" key which is the "Nearest" key It will the display the closest 8 airports ( or you can do a browse or search for any airport).

After you select an airport, you are presented with the elevation, frequencies and runway info for that airport. You next select a runway pair ( such as 01/19) and are presented with the option of selcting "Direct" or "Via Intercept" . Next select which approach you want and you get a couse line drawn on the map. The horizon display will give you "Higway In The Sky" green boxes to fly through to get to the intercept point or the green plus signs if it is a direct GLS approach.

If It was an intercept, when you reach the intercept point, a message displays and the GLS approach begins. You then will see green plus signs to fly through that guide you to the runway. It also calls out the outer and middle markers.

If you have the simulator, you can play with this stuff.

Regards.

Interesting idea. We would have to choose among the free Wiki forms (hosts) and load the existing EFIS manual in to the Wiki.I wonder which Wiki software supports embedded images. I really don't know much in this area.
Craig,

I'm going to poke around and see if I can find a free WIKI that would allow embedded images. I don't know much about WIKI's either but I'm willing to dig in and find out if it would work for us.

Regards,
Bill
