Has anyone thought of installing or installed LED lights bars for trucks as landing lights? Many are built rugged enough for harsh off roading and weather, 12v systems, and CHEAP.

I have not found any regulation for a Lumen requirement, so what do people use?

I found these, and they seem like a really good option: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B079GTJ3W6/ref=s9_acsd_zwish_hd_b...

They seem easier to work with, I'd like to be able to adjust them after first flight for better aiming.

Let me know your thoughts!

Scott,

These are the two LED lights I put in my 601XL wing.  They already fit the round PAR36 opening on the Zenith light kit option so no rework if you already have that.  They are in the same price range as the ones you showed.  I have had mine installed for a few years now with no problems.

Either one would be a good option to add cheap LED lights.  I added a Kuntzleman LED wig-wag to aid in recognition.

I’m hoping to use these. A bit heavy, but great output and form factor.

Have not ordered anything from them, yet, but look at Crazedpilot.com . Fourty dollars for pair of LED lights and strobe controller. Add more lights for $10.00 each. Add your own switches and mounts. No claims on lumen output. Advertised as “bright”. If anybody buy’s and installs I would appreciate hearing about results. I hate wiring or I would have ordered some and tried them. Am going to order LED strip lights to go under lip on my control pane for low light conditions. Holding flash light in teeth works for night landing, but gets old fast.

Hi Ralph, the controller works well, have used it over a year. The LED lights, not so good. They don't hold up to the vibration ( I think) went thru 2 sets and decided they are what you pay for, (junk)

I have seen and heard the same thing, Jim.  The "Crazedpilot" LED's don't seem to be very durable.

I have had a very positive experience with my AeroLED's MicroSun landing light.  Going on 6+ years now and still working great.  At the time, I suppose it was the "internal" model (they now have an "externa" model, too), but it had a very durable lens cover so I didn't even mount it behind another cover - I just mounted it exposed in my oil cooler inlet in the lower cowl (no additional holes in cowl, no additional drag!).  When I first got the light, I emailed the company with a question and the CEO returned my email on a Sunday! I always like to recognize great customer service!

The bitterness of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten.

The specs don't mention amp draw but one review comment says 10 amps per light assy. Seems a little high?
