<p class="psection-2">Apparently the FAA does not define "Hobbs" or "tach" time - those are used for rental record keeping (Hobbs) and maintenance (tach). It appears to me that this is one of those rare areas in the regs where the FAA will accept most any reasonable estimate. I haven't looked at my plane's Operating Limitations lately, but I believe it refers to Phase I as 40 hours of "flight testing," which I assume is reasonable to equate to "flight time." Since our aircraft don't have a squat switch, it would seem that the Hobbs time is a "reasonable" estimate ... it's the one I would use to get out of Phase 1 as expeditiously as possible! ;>)</p>
