Just wondering if anyone has ever tried using a belly board instead of the flaperons?

On the 701

What is a belly board?

When I was building the KR2 alot of guys were installing a single flap which was located on the bottom of the fuselage. It reduced weight and had a simple control method. They were claiming that it was very effective. Was just wondering about any pros or cons of using one on my 701 instead of flaperons.

Intriguing- OK I’ll take the bait! So, you still need ailerons, so would we redesign the entire flaperon control system to eliminate the flap control assembly (7C3) but keep the aileron bellcranks (7C1)?  That would take some serious doing. If not, and we would keep the original flaperon design, how would adding something under the aircraft decrease our weight?

Well to be honest I don’t have any answers. I just recall when building the KR2 that a lot of guys were eleminating the flaps and installing the belly flap. I do know that most info I find states it works well on a BWB aircraft which the KR2 is a low wing but I don’t know if the wings would be considered as Blended.

I think the purpose of the belly board is to act as a speed brake.  Flaps/flaperons would still be needed to provide more lift for slower speeds.
