Bingo! That would be a viable alternative to all the 4-seat Cessna and Piper pilots out there who want a new airplane and the ability to customize it exactly as they want without the price tag of certified.

How about an 801 Cruzer? :) I would be interested in a higher gross weight 750 STOL, just be sure to make the changes retrofitable to the original aircraft.

Though I will keep flying my 601xlb, I can fly it at night. Sometimes the limits on cross country is day VFR only under sport pilot rules. I had my 3rd class in the last 10 years and let it lapse hoping this would be the outcome. I know many are unhappy with the 10 year limit. But now we have our foot in the door.
For those of us who have private certificates and found the special issuance process onerous (and expensive), this is a breath of fresh air.

I chose to let my SI 3rd class medical expire and to fly as a sport pilot because 90% of the kind of flying I do could be done under the sport pilot rule using a valid driver's license in lieu of a medical certificate, but flying a 172 with more than one passenger was no longer an option.

While over the past ten years we've focused primarily on two-seat designs that meet the definition of light sport aircraft (max gross weight 1,320 lbs.) for Sport Pilots, the new medical rules will allow many recreational pilots to keep flying much larger airplanes (six people, up to 6,000 lbs).
