I am going to build my table tomorrow and wonder if anyone has a better plan? Is the 4 X 12 version enough, or should I go to 16?

Wow! A 16ft table is pretty big, I just built my table in a room in my basement where I will be starting my build and the the 12ft table takes up quite a bit of room. Most of the build sites I have been on to see what they used was a straight 12 footer. I built mine out of Tji's here is a link for a nice straight table where I got the idea to build mine. good luck! wishing you the best in your build.

Darrin,

Thanks for the pictures and the comments. I got several good ideas from them.

Ed
George,

Thanks for the idea, hope you are progressing on your project.

Ed
Edward,

A 12' foot table will be sufficant for the complete build, however if you have the extra space , you might want to consider building it slightly wider. I built mine ( see pics below ) 12' by 5' wide, and it has proven to be a God send, because I now can handle 12' foot sheets, without the hassle of keeping them rolled up. The two shelves I made under the table can store literally hindreds of sheets, and I can manipulate them by myself, without any danger of damaging them in any way.

When I need a new sheet, I simply pull it out of the shelf, and slowely flip it over onto the table, and carefully slide it all the way to the other end of the table. Then, once the cuts are made, I simply reverse the process, and slide it back onto the shelf.

Good luck with your choices

Robert,

Thanks for your comments and the pictures. As with Darrin's, I got several good ideas.

Ed
Edward; I found a 4 x 12 ft. table adequate for the 701 project. enjoy the build out. Bill Proctor, Valley Springs, CA
Bill,

Thanks for the input. I really love this ability to get fairly instant feedback on ideas.

Ed
Richard,

Thanks for the information. I'm a neat freak about my shop and I have several rolling carts that I use to work off of and I really liked the one Darrin just sent me. I will be using a combination of them. I'm not a good welder, but Darrin's looked easy enough. I'm picking up several sections at the factory on Thursday, so I'll have to get cracking on a plan for the shop.

Ed
Edward.
I am tooling up to start my build also I thought I would send you a link for a tool cart I came across that will store ton's of tools and a great amount of extra space for all the odds and ends one might keep at hand during a build. Being I am going to build in a 12x20 Basement room I wanted something that I can easily move around to sweep up under. I sent some pictures, check out the link see if this can be of any use for you. Its an easy build and believe me it works great!

Darrin,

Great idea for a tool cart! I built one when I was rebuilding my Ercoupe, and it was a great system for a big area, but this one is super for a smaller shop! My garage could really benefit from it.

Ed
Because I was waiting for my kit, I had plenty of time to think about a table. I decided that I would make my table so that when I was done, I could turn it into two tables each 4 X 6 as they would be very useful around the shop (tablesaw outfeed, welding, etc.) You can see some pics here:

Ken,

Great table!! One of the best I've seen. Wish I had as much adjustment. I've put bolts into the bottom of each leg to do what you did, but not as neatly as you.

Good luck,
Ed
